The EKG Group LLC

The EKG Group LLC

The EKG Group LLC is a privately held Texas technology advisory founded in 2017 by Gerry Mecca, who runs it from Dallas. The name is an initialism of a line he uses about himself, Everybody Knows Gerry, and the firm is built around that: one senior practitioner working directly with the client instead of a consulting bench.

The advisory work is fractional CIO, CTO and CISO leadership for companies that need executive technology judgment before they can justify a full-time hire. Private equity sponsors are a large part of the practice, engaging the firm when technology risk or spend is visible in a valuation. The work covers ERP, CRM and financial systems, cloud and data center strategy, cybersecurity governance, vendor and licensing strategy, and the organizational design questions that follow a merger or a carve-out.

Mecca spent four decades as a technology executive before founding it, serving as CIO or VP of IT at Keurig Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Cadbury Schweppes, Tropicana Brands Group and Datascan. He is part of PwC's expert advisor network and teaches technology as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Publishing is a small and deliberate part of the business. The firm issued The Charge to Billybeat Island, Mecca's own book, which is the kind of arrangement a first-time author often reaches when the book exists to support a practice instead of to sell on its own. That is a legitimate route and worth understanding for what it is, which is an author publishing under a company he controls, not an independent press selecting a manuscript.
