Free Press was an American publisher founded in 1947 in Glencoe, Illinois, originally focused on sociology and the social sciences, and later a general nonfiction imprint of Simon and Schuster.
Its early catalog was academic and included foundational works in sociology and organizational theory. After its acquisition it broadened into serious trade nonfiction, business, and current affairs, publishing a long run of influential titles across those categories.
It published Lynn Spencer's Touching History in 2008. The imprint was retired by Simon and Schuster in 2012, with its list absorbed into other imprints within the company, though the name still appears on a large backlist.
