Farrar, Straus and Giroux is an American publisher founded in New York in 1946 by Roger Straus and John Farrar, with Robert Giroux joining in 1955 and bringing with him a list of authors that reshaped the house.
It is among the most decorated literary publishers in the world. Its authors have won a very large number of Nobel Prizes in Literature, along with extensive Pulitzer and National Book Award representation, and the house built its reputation on translation and on taking serious European and Latin American writers to an American readership.
Its nonfiction list is equally strong, and it published Daniel Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow in 2011. It is now part of Macmillan Publishers and continues to operate with substantial editorial independence.
