Allison and Busby is an independent British publisher founded in London in 1967 by Clive Allison and Margaret Busby, who was among the first Black women to run a publishing house in the United Kingdom and was in her early twenties at the time.
The house built a reputation for taking on writers the larger firms would not, publishing Buchi Emecheta, C. L. R. James, Roy Heath, and Nuruddin Farah alongside crime, science fiction, and literary fiction. It published Michael Moorcock's Behold the Man in its novel form in 1969, at a point when the material was considered difficult enough that the mainstream houses stayed away.
The company changed hands several times after the founders left and continues as an independent publisher based in London, focused primarily on crime fiction, historical fiction, and general trade titles.
