Director: Martin Campbell

Martin Campbell is the only director to have launched two James Bond actors, directing GoldenEye for Pierce Brosnan and Casino Royale for Daniel Craig, eleven years apart. Both films rebuilt the series after a period of drift, and Casino Royale did it by stripping out the gadgets entirely.

His action is unusually legible. The parkour chase that opens Casino Royale is long, geographically coherent and cut sparingly, which is the opposite of what the era’s action filmmaking was doing.

The Mask of Zorro is the other film he is remembered for. Green Lantern is the one nobody defends, including him.
