Norstedts Förlag is Sweden's oldest publishing house and one of the largest in the country. It was founded in 1823 in Stockholm by Per Adolf Norstedt, originally under the name P. A. Norstedt & Söner, with roots in a printing business stretching back even further.
Over two centuries Norstedts has built a reputation for literary quality and editorial rigor, publishing Swedish and foreign fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, biographies, and reference works. It has collaborated with leading and award-winning authors, including Nobel laureates, across its long history.
Among its internationally famous titles is Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, beginning with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which Norstedts published in the original Swedish and which became a global publishing phenomenon. The house also publishes children's books through its subsidiary Rabén & Sjögren.
Headquartered in Stockholm and now part of a larger publishing group, Norstedts continues to issue hundreds of titles a year in print and audio. As Sweden's oldest publisher, it occupies a central place in the country's literary culture.
