Tommy Lee Wallace worked as production designer and editor for John Carpenter, designing the Michael Myers mask for Halloween by modifying a William Shatner mask, before directing Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
That film abandoned Myers entirely for a story about Celtic ritual and television advertising, was rejected on release and has since been substantially reappraised. The intention had been an anthology series under the Halloween name.
He also directed the television adaptation of Stephen King’s It, which gave a generation its clown.
