Writing is my passion! That’s a bold statement, definitely, but as a writer with almost a decade of professional experience, I relish the opportunity to bring my skills and expertise to life as a ghostwriter. From 2013 to 2023, I’ve dedicated myself to this craft, driven by my love for writing and my desire to make a difference in people’s lives. With each project I take on, I help turn someone’s dream of writing a book into a reality, fulfilling both my passion for writing and my need to earn a decent living. The satisfaction of knowing I’m making a positive impact through my work is unmatched, and I look forward to continuing this rewarding journey for years to come.

My First Ghostwritten Book

As a lifelong writer, I’ve always known that the written word has the power to shape and transform lives. My love for writing began when I took on my first “ghostwritten” project at the young age of 17, tasked with bringing my grandfather’s World War II journal to life. Despite numerous rejections from publishers who saw no market for yet another war book, my grandfather was determined to share his experiences with the world.

As a cook on the Panay, a boat that was part of the Yangtze River Patrol in 1938, my grandfather’s life was forever changed by the Japanese attack on the Philippines in 1941. The attack marked the beginning of the Pacific War and the Philippines Campaign, and my grandfather was captured on Corregidor and subjected to the brutal Bataan death march. It’s estimated that thousands of American soldiers died during this death march across the Bataan peninsula in 1942. The exact number of casualties is difficult to determine, but it is estimated that anywhere from 5,000 to 18,000 American and Filipino soldiers died from starvation, dehydration, disease, and mistreatment during the 65-mile march from Mariveles to San Fernando, Pampanga. The Bataan Death March is considered one of the worst atrocities of World War II and remains a symbol of the horrors of war.

He spent four grueling years as a POW in a Japanese camp before finally being freed by US forces at the end of the war. This book detailed how American soldiers who were captured by the Japanese during World War II were sent to POW camps faced brutal conditions and treatment. Many were subjected to forced labor, poor living conditions, limited rations, and physical abuse. They also suffered from diseases such as dysentery and beriberi, which were often caused by the unsanitary conditions in the camps. Despite these conditions, the prisoners were expected to maintain high levels of physical labor and were punished severely for even minor infractions. The psychological toll of being a POW was also significant, as soldiers were often subjected to solitary confinement and isolation and were deprived of news from the outside world. The conditions in the POW camps were so extreme that thousands of American soldiers did not survive and the experiences of those who did left a lasting impact. The treatment of American POWs by the Japanese remains a dark chapter in World War II history.

I was determined to tell my grandfather’s story, to understand the man behind the experiences and emotions he had lived through. So I interviewed him, listened to his experiences, and put countless hours into re-writing his journal into a compelling narrative. Although these conversations were emotionally charged, filled with pain, anger, guilt, and rage, I never lost sight of my goal to bring our relationship closer through storytelling.

Through my writing, I discovered that my grandfather was a brave and honorable man who had been shaped by the atrocities of war. He was not strange or weird or upsetting, but a human being who had endured more than most people can imagine. Despite the book never being published, I am proud of the work I did and the knowledge I gained about my grandfather’s legacy. I gained a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices made by American soldiers during World War II and the bravery they displayed in preserving our freedoms and way of life.
