Avengers: Endgame (2019) Review
The most contrived blockbuster of the decade. The 4 reflects honest evaluation of one of the most commercially successful films in cinema history.
Christopher Markus co-wrote six Marvel films with Stephen McFeely, and The Winter Soldier is the one that changed what the series could be. It is a 1970s political paranoia film with a superhero in it, and its structure comes from Three Days of the Condor instead of from comics.
Civil War then split the ensemble along a genuine ethical argument in which both sides are coherent, which is unusual for the form.
Before Marvel the pair wrote The Chronicles of Narnia and a biopic of Ed Wood’s collaborator, and they have since moved into television.
