Praeger is an American academic and trade publisher founded in 1950 by Frederick A. Praeger, initially known for political and international affairs titles and later for a broad scholarly list across history, psychology, military affairs, and the social sciences.
It is now an imprint of ABC-CLIO and publishes primarily for the academic and library markets.
It published Ian Stevenson's two-volume Reincarnation and Biology in 1997, a work of more than two thousand pages documenting 225 cases in which a child's birthmark or birth defect corresponded to a wound on the person whose life the child described. The book's format and price place it firmly in the reference category, which is part of why it is more often cited than read.
