Citadel Press was founded in New York in 1945 and is now an imprint of Kensington Publishing Corporation, the largest independent United States publisher of trade books.
Its early reputation came from progressive nonfiction and from the long-running Citadel Film Series, which documented the careers of film performers across decades and became a fixture of cinema reference shelves.
Under Kensington the imprint publishes narrative nonfiction, memoir, true crime, popular culture, and humour, including Steven Petrow's Stupid Things I Won't Do When I Get Old. It occupies a useful position between the large houses and the small presses, taking books with a clear audience that the biggest publishers consider too narrow.
