Build Your Own Science Fiction Book Empire
Between 1945 and the late Sixties, Science Fiction was almost totally an allegory for the Cold War between the United States and Russia.
That started to change significantly beginning with the launch of the TV show Star Trek.
Then in 1977, with the release of Star Wars, the audiences began to include people of all ages and both sexes.
In the last couple decades, Science Fiction began to break out of obscurity and move into the mainstream.
The big print publishers began to take notice. In recent years, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Simon and Schuster both added Science Fiction prints to their publishing empires.
Today, Science Fiction books are regularly dominating the Best Seller Lists, and many of these books are getting movie-adaptions.
The Overall Trajectory of Science FictionHas Been Steadily Growing Year-Over-Year
The following numbers represent Science Fiction Movies, but it also gives us some understanding of the popularity of Science Fiction as a whole…
These numbers show us that there is a lot of profit potential in this genre.
Reader Demographics Are Still Shifting
In 1950, Science Fiction consumers were about 93% male.
But even in the 1970’s and 1980’s, people still pretended to believe that only men would enjoy a good science fiction story.
Women who admitted in public that they were fans of the genre were generally mocked and discouraged from pursuing such interests.
Overall, audiences tend to view Star Wars as “Science Fantasy” more than “Science Fiction“, but it laid the groundwork for more women to fall in love with the genre.
Even Doctor Who and Firefly are more Science Fantasy than Science Fiction, but both have contributed heavily to the popularity of the genre with females.
For the last ten years or so, industry observers have stated that the Science Fiction audience is split right down the middle between men and women, with nearly a solid 50/50 split.
This gives authors a real opportunity to explore a wide range of content under the guise of Science Fiction.
Also worth noting, Science Fiction is attractive to people of all ages…
Science Fiction Short Stories Offer Great Promise To Book Authors
Richard Lowe Jr. fell in love with the Science Fiction genre, when he just a wee lad, after reading “Stranger in a Strange Land,” written by Robert A. Heinlein.
From there, he went on to read Science Fiction stories from authors such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke, Joseph Campbell, Edgar Hamilton, and Edgar Rice Burroughs, among many others.
He has spent a lifetime curled up with a good book, going on journeys in space ships and beyond the confines of our solar system.
At first, Richard was very skeptical of the Amazon Kindle format, but like the rest of us, he soon began to discover the convenience of carrying 50-100 books in his Kindle device, no matter where he might have found himself.
On the airplane, on the bus, at the restaurant, and in his doctor’s waiting room, Richard discovered that the Kindle was a godsend to an avid reader.
Soon enough, Richard discovered short-form Science Fiction ebooks, with word counts of 6,000 to 10,000 words.
His initial skepticism was very high, as he worried whether writers could deliver epic Science Fiction stories in less than 10,000 words.
Much to his surprise and his joy, Richard found several authors who were able to tell mind-bending and thoughtful Science Fiction stories in 10,000-words or less.
He was also able to discover many very talented book authors, who were writing science fiction short stories in a series. After completing several books in the series, those authors would frequently package their short stories into box sets also.
Short ebooks allowed Richard the opportunity to quickly discover new authors and explore lots of strange new worlds in the Science Fiction space.
He found lots of joy in his new discoveries.
Chapter Two
In 2013, Richard made a life-changing decision.
That is when he decided to leave his job and change careers, committing himself to writing for a living.
That first year was rough, as he took on ghost writing work, while he struggled to write the Science Fiction novel that had been simmering in the back of his mind for decades.
After struggling for nearly a year with his monumental first novel, he remembered those short Science Fiction books he had discovered while browsing Amazon’s book shelves.
He wondered if writing a 10,000-word book would be easier than writing a 100,000-word novel…
Would short books give him the ability to earn more money from his writing — money that was not contingent on him writing for clients?
In 2014, Richard wrote his first short Science Fiction story.
He spent two days writing, one day editing, then he sent it to a proofreader for a final edit. With the recommended corrections made, Richard self-published his short Science Fiction book on Amazon Kindle.
His first short ebook sold over one hundred copies in its first month..
Boom! This proof-of-concept book has forever changed his writing business towards the positive.
You may also be pleased to learn that all of his eBooks are priced between $.99 and $9.99, with the majority of his books priced higher than $2.99, allowing him to reliably collect Amazon royalty checks, month after month, year after year.
Readers LOVE Short Stories And Kindle Short Reads
There are several advantages to purchasing shorter books…
Short ebooks are generally priced at $3.99 or less, which allows consumers to purchase more books with the limited amount of funds they have available.
Reading a 100,000-word book could take several weeks, and a Kindle Short Read can usually be consumed in a few hours or a single day, which allows consumers the ability to read more stories and still have plenty of time for friends, family and activities.
Since readers can generally read a short book in a single sitting, they find they can finish the book while the story is still fresh in their minds, without forgetting important details in the story.
People love their science fiction stories, but those of us with kids, family and jobs can seldom commit ourselves to reading a book that will take weeks or months to read.

52 Opportunities for People To Read Your Books and For Amazon To Pay You More Royalties
Richard spent a full year writing the next great American novel, and he still didn’t get the silly thing finished or published.
After one year of really hard work, he still had nothing to show for all of his efforts, except for a half-finished book manuscript and no book royalties.
The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again, and expecting different results.
Richard could have spent another year trying to finish his novel, and he could have finished the year in the same boat in which he started the year — paying the bills with client work and not earning any money from his own books.
But, with his proof-of-concept book behind him, he knew there was a better way to go forward.
In 2014, he began focusing his time and energy on short science fiction ebooks for the Amazon Kindle marketplace.
In doing so, he forever changed his financial outlook…
Four years later, he is absolutely convinced he made the right decision when he decided to focus on short ebooks.
Just a Few Hours Each Week
Some of the greatest science fiction writers of the last century started their careers writing short fiction, and now you can do the same.
In the 1950’s and 1960’s, magazines were the primary consumers of short science fiction stories…
Now, we have Amazon Kindle from which we can launch our writing careers.
If you only have ten hours a week to dedicate to your writing career, write one book every two weeks.
If you have more time to dedicate to your task, you can pursue publishing one to two ebooks per week.
You are just minutes away from making the decision you need to make, to start building your publishing legacy…
- You are going to learn a preven system for writing science fiction that will let you focus on story telling, instead of how to write a story. This will allow you to spend more time writing and less time on non-productive tasks.
- Less time writing will allow you to have more time to spend with family and friends.
- Having more books available on Amazon will provide more opportunities for new readers to discover you and your books, which will give you more chances to grow your audience.
- More books on Amazon will give consumers more reasons to give you money, which result in you selling more books and receiving larger royalty checks.
- Having more books on Amazon will allow consumers to quickly determine that you are not just a flash in the pan, which may convince readers to add you to their “favorite author’s list,” leading them to buy more of your books long-term.
- Writing in a series will incentivize more people to buy more of your books, if they like the stories you are writing.
- Having even 10 books on Amazon will increase your likelihood of you producing a book that goes viral ten-fold, driving a lot of sales, without you needing to spend time and money promoting your books.
- Producing more stories more quickly will allow you to start growing your Amazon royalty check sooner rather than later. This way, you don’t have to hang your success on whether one book finds an audience or not.
- “I see that author everywhere,” will give more consumers the confidence they need to take a chance on your books.
- The sooner you can get to fifty books on Amazon, the sooner it will be when you are earning the kind of money you would like to earn as a result of your books on Amazon. When writing short ebooks, you will be able to get to fifty a lot faster than if you were writing full length novels.
