War and Peace (1966-1967)
Bondarchuk's 1966-67 Soviet seven-hour Tolstoy adaptation. The most expensive film ever made at that time.
Vyacheslav Tikhonov played Andrei Bolkonsky in War and Peace and was among the most recognisable Soviet actors, largely through Seventeen Moments of Spring, a spy series that effectively stopped the country when broadcast. He worked in Soviet and Russian cinema for five decades.
