Actor: Jack Palance

Jack Palance won Best Supporting Actor for City Slickers at seventy-three and performed one-armed push-ups on stage during his acceptance speech.

Shane gives him Wilson, a gunfighter who says almost nothing and whose first killing establishes the film’s stakes entirely. His face was reconstructed after burns from a bomber crash during the war, which produced the taut appearance that defined his casting. He was nominated twice previously, for Sudden Fear and Shane.
