Blue Velvet (1986)
Lynch's 1986 small-town surrealist thriller. MacLachlan, Rossellini, Hopper as Frank Booth.
Isabella Rossellini played Dorothy Vallens in Blue Velvet, a performance of complete vulnerability that David Lynch pushed considerably further than most directors would.
She is the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini. Lancôme dropped her as a model at forty-two, which she discussed publicly and which contributed to a wider conversation about age in advertising; they rehired her twenty-three years later. She has a master’s degree in animal behaviour and makes short films about it.
