Actor: Dirk Bogarde

Dirk Bogarde moved from British matinee idol to serious European actor deliberately, taking Victim in 1961, in which he plays a barrister being blackmailed over his sexuality, at considerable professional risk. The Servant, Death in Venice and The Night Porter followed. He wrote fifteen books and was a prolific correspondent whose letters have been published.
