Actor: Danny DeVito

Danny DeVito appeared in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, having played the role on stage first, and then became famous through Taxi.

As a director he makes films considerably darker than his performing persona suggests: Throw Momma from the Train, The War of the Roses and Matilda, the last of which is genuinely frightening in places.

Batman Returns gives him the Penguin as something closer to body horror. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has given him a very long late run and produces most of his current visibility.
