Bill Mauldin appeared in The Red Badge of Courage and was primarily a cartoonist, winning two Pulitzer Prizes, whose Willie and Joe strips gave American soldiers their own voice during the war. General Patton attempted to have him censored, and Eisenhower overruled it.
